In previous years I had developed some skin damage on my head from sun exposure, called actinic keratosis. It’s a pre-cancer, but not as scary as it sounds and in my case mostly just uncomfortable. I had been to the dermatologist a couple times to receive treatment where they apply a shot from a cold CO2 canister, similar to how warts are removed. In the past the treatments had gone well but there was one spot that has been nagging me many years, and after multiple treatments I was starting to get nervous.
In 2022 and 2023 I had found videos online of this traveling teacher and preacher who sees healing miracles consistently and found out that he was coming to my town, so I decided to go.
November 2023. It’s Saturday night and I walk inside an electrical contractor training and certification facility in the warehouse district across town. The building temporarily converts into a church on the weekends and that night they invited that traveling evangelist and Assemblies of God pastor.
Have you ever been in a church and you can feel the presence of the Lord when you are there? This is once of those churches. Right before worship started I could feel this rush through me and I thought “people will be healed tonight here”.
The pastor got up to preach and asked who needs prayer for healing before beginning the message. I am there to be healed so I raise my hand. It’s a small church, everyone knows I am the new guy, and now I’m really singling myself out because I need some form of healing. But that’s what I came for, so I do it.
Others raise their hands as well, and we partner up. Two people come over, a woman from the congregation and the pastor of the church. I tell them I have skin damage on my head on one specific location and point to it. I ask for prayer and they start going after it. I had heard that you are supposed to check to see if you are healed, so after they pray for me I start rubbing that spot on my head and I can still feel the skin damage. I felt some tingling on my scalp during the prayer time but I didn’t feel anything healed, everything felt the same. I continued to rub the one spot on my head with the largest skin damage throughout the night to see if it had been healed. It felt the same, which was frustrating, because I was expecting a healing and I had received one before. After the service concludes I take up the traveling pastors offer to receive additional prayer, he prays for me personally, I say thank you, and head home.
A couple days later I can feel the location with the concerning skin damage spot start to crust up, and later it fell of my head! And it has never come back, even years later. This is the same spot that I continually checked for healing throughout the whole night, even while the message was being given, because I was expecting to be healed. I learned a couple things through this process:
- Your faith matters, so go in expecting to be healed
- Sometimes you have to fight for a healing, meaning you have to drive across town to a different church and be bold by raising your hand in front of strangers
- A healing can be miraculous while also taking time
- In my limited faith I was only concerned with one spot of skin damage to be healed. Next time I will be believing for 100% healing!
I followed up with the traveling pastor to let him know of the healing so I could say thank you but also so I could help to build his faith as well.
